The West Virginia Assembly is on course to debate an education bill that is being dubbed “Don’t Say Solar” by both opponents and endorsers of the landmark legislation. The bill, officially titled LD-F-001-ED, An Act to Protect our Children from Environmental Extremism (PCEE), was introduced in Mid-March by Representative Bernie Cole and seeks to ban teaching renewable energy science in the State’s public schools. It was introduced as emergency legislation and will not follow normal committee procedures but will instead go directly to the Assembly floor.
Introducing the proposed legislation at a March 14 press conference, Representative Cole said, “We cannot let the climate alarmists distort the facts and corrupt our children’s minds. Citizen watchdogs of our public education systems have reported that teachers, most of whom attended college in other states, are telling our children that there is no such thing as ‘clean coal’ and are purposely neglecting the facts that wind farms are killing birds, don’t work when it’s not windy, and even cause cancer. As for solar, they avoid the issues that solar is taking over our farmland causing food shortages and inflation, not to mention that it only works in the daytime. Good people of West Virginia, it is time to take a stand and protect our children and our heritage.”
